The Big Knit

2021

A summer festival in St. George’s Square, Huddersfield, celebrating knitting and textiles.

Utilising the skills they had developed whilst teaching with the Homemade Knitting Machine at the University of Huddersfield, Elinor and Dr. Jade Lord created a giant knitting machine, and giant knitting, using traffic cones and yarn made from old duvet covers.

This large-scale performance piece attracted much attention, showcasing an alternative way of thinking about knitting.
